Winchester, VA – The offensive of the Iraqi army, backed by the U.S.-led coalition, to take back Mosul from the hands of ISIS and defeat the Iraqi portion of the Islamic Caliphate has been going on since last October. The Daily Mail reported at the end of May that Iraqi security forces predicted the liberation of Mosul by June 10th. UNICEF released a statement yesterday saying that about 100,000 children are still trapped inside Mosul, and are caught in the crosshairs, being forced to fight, or becoming human shields. Reuters reports that scores of civilians have been killed by ISIS while fleeing Mosul in droves. CNN captured the grief of fleeing residents, with one man mourning his brother, a family who nearly starved, and a woman bemoaning her destroyed life under ISIS rule. One woman fled cursing ISIS, saying, “May God punish these infidels.”
