Winchester, VA – St. Joseph was the foster father of Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ and the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Matthew says he was the son of Jacob, and St. Luke claims that Heli was his father. Regardless, his city of birth was Bethlehem, and it is believed he was betrothed to the Blessed Virgin while living in Nazareth, where he was a carpenter by trade St. Joseph’s steadfast love for Mary and trust in God are evident by his respect for her when she was found with child during their betrothal, and when God asked him to flee immediately and take the family to Egypt. It is believed St. Joseph died before Our Lord began his public ministry. He is the patron saint of fathers, immigrants, realtors, and a happy death. St. Joseph, pray for us!
