Winchester, VA – While everyone was concerned about kneeling and standing on Tuesday, an important press conference was being held at the U.S. Capitol. Crux reports that at this press conference, an announcement was made that the U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act on October 3, to decide whether or not abortions after 20 weeks gestation should be banned. Speaking at that press conference was Danielle Pickering, a mother whose five year old son, Micah, was born at 20 weeks gestation. Sadly this act does carry exceptions for rape, incest and when the life of the mother is at stake. Multiple studies have proven that babies not only feel pain at 20 weeks gestation, but they exhibit defense mechanisms as young as six weeks post-fertilization, and they exhibit hormonal stress responses as early as 16 weeks post-fertilization. While it is expected to pass the House, it will have greater challenges in the Senate, which, as Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser points out, illustrates the importance of the 2018 mid-term elections.
