Winchester, VA –

As I was preparing to take my 20 year old daughter back to school the other day, we stopped off at the grocery store. As we were getting ready to check out, she said to me, “Now it’s time to get my fruitcake…” “What do you mean?” I asked. “Well, when I went to ask Dad for a slice of his fruitcake, it was all gone.” I told her that she waited too long to ask! We Youngbloods love our fruitcake, and my mother sends us a delectable one made by monks every year. So I asked the young man in the bakery section, “Where might we find fruitcakes?” And he walked over to a couple of areas where they had been, but no longer were. It appeared they had no more fruitcakes. On the ninth day of Christmas. But don’t you fear, SIX WEEKS OUT, they are full of red, and pink and white candies for…you guessed it…Valentine’s Day. Six. Weeks. Out. Christmas isn’t over yet, folks. Keep celebrating, and if you can find yourself a fruitcake yet, consider yourself lucky! As for my daughter—she had to settle for a vintage 100 year anniversary tin of Moon Pies. I can’t say she was too disappointed. Good thing the monastery 20 minutes up the road makes fruitcakes. She has a birthday coming up this month and that might just be her birthday cake. Don’t worry. She isn’t listening to her mama—She’s at work. You might know, but It’ll be a surprise to her. Are you taking notes Mitter Youngblood?
