Winchester, VA – In this Celestial Musings, we wonder which came first, the chicken, or the egg? Reuters is reporting on a new study published online in JAMA Internal Medicine which has concluded that transgendered people, and people who claim nonconorming sexual identities, report being in poor or fair health. Significant medical concerns included depression, weight, and deficits in memory, concentration, and decision making. They were also found to have more issues with unemployment, reduced income, and failure to report medical concerns. Dr. Carl Streed Jr., lead author of the study, surmised that minority stress and issues with resilience are contributing factors to the health struggles of transsexual and nonconforming individuals.
