“War Is The Health of The State” & The ‘Murican State Has Been Corpulent Since 9-11

The WaPo has published leaked documents (is this Trump’s way of getting us out of Afghanistan?) that show what some of us have been telling you since 2008: there was no “national interest” or “national security” at stake in Afghanistan, there was just a rapacious MIC that needed feeding and Mordor was only too happy to comply. A sampling from Barbara Boland this morning.

Perhaps the most outrageous takeaway is the untold sums wasted in the war: One unidentified contractor told government interviewers he was expected to dole out $3 million daily for projects in a single Afghan district roughly the size of a U.S. county. He once asked a visiting congressman whether the lawmaker could responsibly spend that kind of money back home: “He said hell no. ‘Well, sir, that’s what you just obligated us to spend and I’m doing it for communities that live in mud huts with no windows.’ ”

Three million dollars. A day. In one Afghan district.

The United States allocated more than $133 billion to build Afghanistan—more than was spent, in inflation adjusted dollars, on the Marshall Plan, which encompassed all of Western Europe after World War II.

The war cheerleaders on talk-radio and tax shelter funded right wing media have also profited from this and that will come out “in the wash”, making this lethal fleecing of the ‘Murican people far worse than anything President Trump has conceivably, allegedly done against “their trust”. Trump would do well to sack his war-team and pull out of Syria et al as he has always wanted to do…NOW.
