Closing Mass at the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis – Fr. And that most priests here at NCYC are talking about taking their kids elsewhere in the future unless the stadium “para liturgies” move toward Tradition.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on the phone. I hope I can help to address some of the concerns you are receiving. We only received a few inquiries when the strategic national grant to the Ignatian Solidarity Network was given this past summer, but here is some additional information about the grant itself as well as the great work of the organization. Please feel free to utilize any of this information in responding to questions you are getting about CCHD, this particular grant, or our grant process. All Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) funded initiatives have gone through a thorough application process and are groups we believe reflect the social teaching of the Catholic Church. This organization, the Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN) has been working for over 15 years to network, educate, and form advocates for social justice animated by the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the witness of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador and their companions. This work happens in partnership with the Society of Jesus as well as the larger Church—including the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) through their core membership with the Justice for Immigrants Campaign, as well as Church leaders like Bishop George Murry, SJ who recently spoke at one of ISN’s gatherings on racism. The project that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development is funding strictly involves immigration and migration work and is granted on a go-forward basis. CCHD recognizes the dire circumstances associated with immigration and migration and has engaged a leader with a sizable network to help organize, and strengthen the Church’s work. Through their Strategic National Grant, ISN will be enabled to significantly expand their advocacy capacity—forming leaders, networking and animating Jesuit institutions, and building on the success of existing ISN programs such as the Campaign for Hospitality and the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice. The ultimate goal of these grant-funded efforts is the development of a broader network of individuals, many of whom will be immigrants themselves, and institutions dedicated to standing with and supporting immigrant communities and passage of humane comprehensive immigration reform. This allocation of funds was made explicitly clear in our grant agreement and as we have clarified with their staff and leadership, no CCHD funds have been or will be used for the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ). On June 20, 2019, the Lepanto Institute published an article citing several allegations regarding speakers, workshops, blog posts regarding homosexual activity. Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN) was not encouraging or promoting anything contrary to Catholic teaching. After thorough research and discussion with ISN’s leadership, nothing was found to suggest that the workshops and speakers at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, ISN’s annual conference, were promoting homosexual lifestyles. The topics and workshops were designed to inspire inclusion and safety for those who are physically or emotionally threatened for being LGBT, in line with the Catechism’s instruction that “every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided” (2358). As part of our grant agreement and procedures, CCHD holds all of its funded organizations to a strict mandate to uphold the Church’s moral and social teaching and compliance with these guidelines is closely monitored. Additionally, the grants CCHD gives are broken up into separate payments over a several-year period. ISN has only received the first of three payments and is required to submit compressive and detailed budgets throughout the length of the grant to confirm how the funds are being used. This is a process through which CCHD works diligently to make sure funds are used according to the expressed conditions of each grant. In the rare event where a funded group subsequently violates the explicit conditions of its grant by engaging in activity contrary to Church teaching, funding is immediately terminated. Catholics can be confident that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development does not fund groups that violate the moral teaching of the Church. Attached is a document of commonly asked questions about the CCHD grant and review process that may help to answer any questions you or anyone in your diocese may have. This document may be helpful in educating people about how our funding process works and how we work to monitor the work throughout the length of the grant. The content on this webpage may also be able to provide some additional insight: http://www.usccb.org/about/catholic-campaign-for-human-development/frequently-asked-questions.cfm Please let me know if this will be of help to you in responding to concerns and if you have any further questions or if there is any other way I can be of assistance.
