Radio host Glenn Beck told an audience at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit that pornography is “freedom” and banning it would be “progressive thinking.”

(West Palm Beach, FL) – In a speech given to students gathered for the conservative Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Florida, radio host Glenn Beck told student’s that banning porn was a bad idea. Stating his case, he attempted to show that any attempt to stave off the scourge of pornography would be considered a progressive move. He went further to warn of the next Theodore Roosevelt being in the audience:

I warn you – somewhere in this audience is the next Theodore Roosevelt…read up on Theodore Roosevelt. The man who said, “You know what? When are we ever going to get this? We can’t just let people breed with whoever the want. I mean, we don’t do that with our horses or our cattle – why would we let our people do that?

Beck continued, labeling Roosevelt as the author of the progressive movement.

He was the author of the progressive movement. Be very careful, learn history or you will fall to the mercy of things like “Hey, I don’t like it, it’s bad, we should ban porn. Bad idea gang that’s progressive thinking. You are for freedom. You are for liberty. You’re for allowing people to make mistakes and suffer the consequences of those mistakes but also rise to the greatness that only they can do. That’s who we are.

When Beck mentioned that banning porn is a bad idea, the audience erupted in applause. Evidently, the future of the conservative movement is ripe with young men and women who encourage indulgence in sinful activities.

Porn is Slavery To Personal Lust

Ironically, pornography is the opposite of freedom and liberty since viewing sexually explicit material is enslavement both spiritually and literally.  Studies have proven that porn consumption rewires the brain changing the way we view sex, desensitizes viewers to victims of sexual violence, dehumanizes women, destroys relationships, adds to the problem of sex trafficking, and warps thinking about sex.
Mr. Beck – how exactly is this freedom? When women are coerced into performing sexual acts with which they are not comfortable, that is slavery. When men sneak away to view images on a screen and shirk responsibilities to their families, that is slavery

By What Standard?

Disgusting considerations, to be sure. Yet these are not the most egregious consequences of pornography. Pornography violates God’s seventh and tenth prohibitions in the Ten Commandments.

“You shall not commit adultery,” (Exodus 20:14)
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s,” (Exodus 20:17)

It may seem odd to bring the Ten Commandments into a discussion of modern-day issues. However, we must understand from where each realm of society derives its authority. No government exists arbitrarily with carte blanche to legislate based on the humanistic principles of man. Each government around the world requires submission to God’s rule and law for the governance of their nation. Romans 13:1 states:

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.”

As Glenn Beck has pointed out in the past, we live in a free society which was built upon principles of limited government.  Civil societies are still liable to govern according to an ultimate standard. What greater standard is there than that of the Law of God given to Moses on Sinai? Jesus was very clear in His teachings while on earth that our love for Him was shown by our desire to honor His commandments (John 14:15).

If I could say something directly to Glenn Beck – we must not give in to human notions of freedom. Our responsibility is to “renew our minds” by the Holy Spirit, bowing to Christ as King following His example of liberty.

So why not prostitution? Why not sex shops? Cat houses? Etc…. where should the line be drawn, or should there even be a line? I gave up on listening to Glen Beck’s opinion the day he insisted that the constitution was “inspired by God”.
