May – Lori and Chad are indicted on charges of murder and conspiracy in the deaths of Tylee, JJ, and Tammy Daybell.
June – Lori is deemed incompetent to stand trial and committed to a mental health facility for treatment.
2022
April – Lori is declared competent to stand trial. Prosecutors announce they will seek the death penalty for both Lori and Chad.
Late 2022 – Lori and Chad’s trials are severed (split into separate proceedings).
2023
April 3 – Lori’s murder trial begins in Boise, Idaho.
May 12 – Jury finds Lori guilty of all charges: (they deliberated for 5-6 hours)
First-degree murder of Tylee Ryan and JJ Vallow
Conspiracy to murder Tammy Daybell
Grand theft related to social security benefits of the children
July 31 – Lori is sentenced to 5 life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.
2024
Chad Daybell’s trial is scheduled for April 2024 (delayed multiple times). Prosecutors continue to pursue the death penalty against him. Ultimately on June 1, 2024, Chad Daybell is convicted of killing his wife and Lori Vallows two minor children and sentenced to death. He currently sits on death row in Idaho.
