Investigation Begins

November 2019 – Police conduct a welfare check for JJ at Lori’s home in Rexburg, Idaho. Lori, Alex and Chad claim he’s staying with a friend. Days later, Lori and Chad abruptly leave town.
December 2019 – Tammy Daybell’s body is exhumed. Bruises on her arms are found and pink foam still found in her lungs. The death is now ruled a homicide by the coroner.
December 2019 – Alex Cox, Lori’s brother and key figure in events, dies of natural causes (blood clot in lung). His sudden death deepens suspicions. (this is 1 day after Tammy Daybell’s body was exhumed)

2020

January – Authorities publicly announce JJ and Tylee are missing. Lori is ordered to produce the children, but she fails to comply.
February 20 – Lori is arrested in Hawaii on felony charges related to desertion of her children.
May 16 – Lori’s mother (Janis Cox) and Lori’s sister (Summer Shiflet) do an interview with 48 Hours.

From the 48 Hour Interview:

Janis Cox (Lori Vallow Daybell Mother) – “She would never harm her children. And I know her.”

Summer Shift (Lori Vallow Daybell Sister) – “I don’t know all of her reasons of doing what she’s doing but I know she has…has the reasons. We would love to know where they kids are. We don’t know but we are confident that Lori would never harm her children, ever.”

June 9 – Police execute a search warrant at Chad Daybell’s property in Rexburg, Idaho. The remains of JJ and Tylee are discovered buried. Chad is arrested the same day.
