• When you go out to eat, are the restaurants packed?
• Do you see help wanted signs out front of local businesses?
• TKD tells story of local post office.
• Not a lot of shipping going on these days.
• Post Master tells TKD there just isn’t the traffic they used to have 3 years ago.
• Spoke w/ a friend and he said his business just went through 2 months of ZERO sales.
• So this is my theory of why I think this is happening.
• This is the New Kid on the Block – wait and see period.
• It may last for another year. 
• Even MAGA people are saying, I see what you are doing Trump and I do trust you but I want to save what money I do have just in case.
• They haven’t seen tariffs like this in their lifetime and they are scared about how and what it will all look like.

• On 7 October 1989, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorchbachëv visited East Berlin to help the incompetent geriatrics who ran the misnamed German Democratic Republic celebrate the 40th anniversary of their state. Although he was the leader of what was supposed to be their closest ally, East German security forces blocked streets to prevent their citizens from greeting the world’s most senior Communist—only vetted members of front organisations on planned demonstrations were allowed near his cavalcade. Extra barricades were erected at Checkpoint Charlie, and day-trippers from West Berlin, normally welcomed for the hard Deutschmarks they spent in eastern shops and cafés, were turned away.
• Nonetheless, a few East Berliners managed to find their way to vantage points overlooking the route, shouting “Gorbi help us!” in front of the world’s cameras. In private, away from the media, Gorbachëv warned Erich Honecker and his colleagues in the SED ruling party, bitter opponents of his economic and political liberalisation, that the USSR would not intervene to preserve their rule if their own people turned against them.
• Donald Trump is undoubtedly unhinged. He may very well end up being unpopular among Americans—although I wouldn’t automatically assume that will happen, as he is doing what he was elected to do, and his domestic agenda is quite popular with Americans even as his foreign agenda is despised. Even if he ends up hated, however, it will be impossible to put what he has dismantled back together again. From the start, Trump-supporting intellectuals understood they might only have two years in control of a rare quadrifecta of presidency, both houses of Congress, and Supreme Court; hence they are moving quickly to make changes that will not be easily reversed.
• As is evident from the speed with which the Trumpites are setting out to rip up not only government diversity initiatives, but those in business and education, this isn’t just a matter of political programmes or structures of governance. Trump is setting out to rip up a paradigm, an unspoken set of shared assumptions about how the world works, and one that was already in serious trouble worldwide, as his first election win showed.
• This paradigm was born among utopian visions of remaking the world through self-realisation and individual liberation in the late 1960s. When utopia proved elusive, it was the individualist that survived, morphing into credit card consumerism in the 1980s. The naked materialism of Boomer consumer capitalism sat, once one thinks about it, surprisingly comfortably with the naked materialism of the song that encapsulated the vision the post-1960s progressives longed for: John Lennon’s Imagine—a world without borders, gods, or even much in the way of beliefs, where there was nothing to kill or die for, just an eternity of stoned sex. It was never explained who would collect the bins or fix the drains. 
• It’s of note that John Lennon’s Imagine wasn’t written at the counterculture’s height, when many youth briefly did believe they could build a utopia, but in 1971, after the Manson Family and Altamont, when reality was reasserting itself. The wistful longing for a vision of the future everybody knew was a fantasy made it the perfect soundtrack for the crassly materialist consumerism that would actually define the lives of the children of 1968.

• It should be accountability.
• I think it is perfectly normal for people to be worried about how all this MAGA stuff will work out.
• What is going to rise and what is going to fall?
• When will you see the benefits of Apple’s $500 billion investment in America?
• What is the price of a barrel of crude right now?
• Currently it sits at $68.89 per barrel.
• Brent is sitting at $72 per barrel.
• You are at a $4 per barrel advantage at 30 days in.
• They can’t change course like we can. 

• The 217-215 vote was seen as a key early test for Republican House speaker Mike Johnson, who cancelled an earlier vote as it appeared he did not have enough support.
• Thomas Massie of Kentucky, a prominent fiscal hawk who wanted deeper spending cuts. One Democrat did not vote.
• The House budget seeks $2tn in spending cuts over the next 10 years to pay for President Trump’s agenda. It includes more than $100bn in new spending on immigration enforcement and the military.
• This is completely unacceptable.
• The deficit increase is $2.8 trillion.
• That is supposed to be a big beautiful bill?
• That is a turkey of a bill.
• Every single Democrat voted against this spending bill.
• So what do we think about this?
• Basically it is business as usual.
• The only sane person there was Thomas Massie.
• How are you going to get to a balanced budget, which Trump said was his goal by raising the debt limit by $3 trillion?
• I’d like to know what the master plan is.
• This is why people are sitting on their money.
• That is a $3 trillion bump in the printed money.

• It is all a scam.
• They are claiming you should pay X dollars for this procedure, for this medication etc.
• Medicaid is Congress saying you should spend X on providing services for poor people so we will tax you 30% off the top then shower the rest to bureaucracy then what remains back to you.
• Now you have to make good on the promises you made but we need to grandfather this out.

• We need to get this part done so we can move to the next stage.
• Maybe that is what the master plan is.

• We will need people that are trained to do this.
• Where will we get them from?

• Zelenskyy first proposed an economic partnership with key strategic allies in October as part of his “victory plan,” aiming to jointly develop Ukraine’s vast mineral resources. He later confirmed he wanted to formalize such a deal with the United States but insisted it must include explicit security guarantees.
• The Ukrainian president had said for months that Ukraine’s allies in the war against Russia could have access to the country’s mineral resources. However, he said he couldn’t sign an agreement that didn’t include security guarantees for Ukraine. Officials across Europe also expressed shock at some of the demands the U.S. had made in the offer, including the right to up to $500 billion in revenue from mineral development, which is far more than the U.S. has contributed to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began.

AUDIO/VIDEO: Rep Thomas Massie – Congress Hallway – Their own numbers if the Rep plan passes under the rosiest assumptions….we will add $328 billion to the deficit this year, we will add $295 to the deficit the year after that. Why would I vote for that? I am solidly no. Their own talking points made up my mind. The only way they get to this magic thing where this doesn’t kill our country..they say they will cap discretionary spending. That has never happened. Even if you take their assumptions at face value they are going to increase the deficit. 

• There is funding for the Department of Education in this bill.
• Why is that in there when POTUS said he wanted to get rid of it?
• $330 billion for education and workforce.
• It spends $722 billion. 
• Why is the SAVE program on pause?
• What you need to understand about this, these aren’t cuts. 
• These are reductions in the planned increases of said programs.
• This isn’t acceptable.
• You won’t get $2 trillion from DOGE.
• If you do it by statute it CAN’T be undone.

• The main divide in American politics today isn’t between liberals and conservatives or left and right. It’s between those who believe in the system and those who don’t. And sometimes it really does feel like a matter of belief. It’s a visceral divide about whether basic institutions of American life — from the federal bureaucracy and financial markets to academia and the mainstream media — are working or broken. But it’s more than a feeling, and it’s not entirely new. 
• The irony, of course, is that a billionaire has become the avatar of anti-system sentiment. But this seeming paradox makes more sense when we understand that the new dividing line isn’t about wealth per se. It’s about one’s relationship to institutions. An official at the State Department or a tenure-track professor might not be rich, but they each benefit from system stability. • The future is not fated. We can change. Maybe that’s what’s happening in Washington now. I hope so. But I know this: it could not go on as it had been doing. The old paradigm is over, because at least half the country has lost faith in it. Maybe what’s being born now will be worse, I dunno. We’ll see. But bring it on. I’ve had it.
