HEADLINE: Johnson Defends Vote to Kill FISA Warrant Requirement by Joseph Lord

• Final vote on Friday was 212 – 212.
• In most cases the Speaker of the House of Representatives, does not normally vote.
• So the Speaker just adjourns, reads votes and does procedural things.
• He rode in on his black horse to cast the deciding vote.
• He casts the tying vote. 
• 233 year history this has never happened.
• The House passed a reauthorization of the controversial spying program for two years by a vote of 273–147.
• That final passage came after an amendment by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) to require a warrant to query Americans’ communications and other data failed in a rare tie vote. Mr. Johnson, who, as speaker, doesn’t always vote, cast the decisive vote that killed the proposal, prompting outrage and condemnation from some conservatives.
• “Remember, that’s how we killed terrorists. That’s how we stopped terrorist plots on US soil. That’s why we haven’t had another 9/11 since that terrible tragedy.” – Speaker Mike Johnson
• There were 86 Republicans that voted AGAINST this amendment.
• Steve Scalise from Louisiana is among that number.
• Stefanik is also among that number.
• You can call your member of the House, and ask them to add this amendment to FISA.
• Rep Andy Biggs, AZ on FISA – 3.4 million warrantless searches of American’s private communications. In just one year the FISA court reported there were 278,000 improper searches on American citizens, 19,000 improper searches of donors to a congressional candidate. There is no shortage of spying authority abuses by the weaponized FBI.

• As it stands now, the law, which is set to expire April 19, allows U.S. intelligence agencies to spy on foreign nationals based overseas, but it also lets the FBI comb through the massive amounts of data the intelligence community collects and gather information about American citizens. These are known as “backdoor searches,” and an unlikely coalition of conservative Republicans and left-wing Democrats want to change how these searches are conducted.
• Specifically, they want to require that the FBI obtain a warrant before searching Section 702 data for information about Americans — a reasonable reform. The intelligence community, and the members of the House Intelligence Committee over whom they have influence, oppose this.
• The most straightforward answer is that the main purpose of the intelligence community’s surveillance programs isn’t to spy on terrorists or foreign adversaries overseas, it’s to spy on American citizens. So of course the intelligence community opposes FISA reforms that would make it harder to spy on Americans.

• He is the first president EVER forced to stand for a civil trial.
• He is required to be in the courtroom today.
• He has to be there to watch Cohen perjury himself.
• He has to be there for all of this sham trial.
• He is the nominee for the Republican party.

• Donald Trump will become the first former U.S. President, and the first leading presidential candidate, to be put on criminal trial. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will try to prove to a jury that Mr. Trump is guilty of 34 felonies related to his 2016 hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels. 
• Eight years later, and seven months before the 2024 election, it’s a trial that shouldn’t happen in a case Mr. Bragg shouldn’t have brought. The Stormy affair was sordid business, but the DA’s argument is a legal stretch, in ways that might bother a skeptical juror or an appeals court.
• Let’s just talk about how ridiculous this is for a minute here.
• Why would this bring out a few million in hush money?
• All the other stuff was already out like ‘grab her by the ….’?
• None of this makes any sense.
• Here are some of the ‘facts’: Ms. Daniels has said that in 2006 she and Mr. Trump had one, intimate encounter. A decade later, as the 2016 election neared, Mr. Trump’s fixer Michael Cohen paid Ms. Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet. A nondisclosure agreement isn’t illegal. Mr. Bragg’s complaint is about the paperwork. Mr. Cohen was reimbursed through 2017 via a monthly retainer “disguised as a payment for legal services,” the DA said. He padded his indictment by separately charging each invoice, check and ledger entry to get 34 counts.
• Do they have any witnesses to this?
• No they do not.
• Did Donald Trump sign this ‘hush money’ check?
• No he did not.
• If any of this were true it would only amount to a misdemeanor. 
• So why do all of this?
• Because Mr Bragg, is seeking Federal charges so he has the possibility of going to jail. 
• The statute of limitations on that has expired. Mr. Bragg therefore must charge felonies, which under New York law means showing that Mr. Trump cooked the books with “intent to commit another crime or to aid or conceal the commission thereof.”
• So in other words, after hearing these 3 theories from Mr Braggs, how will you prove any of this?
• You have to have Cohen testify to this.
• He has to say something to that effect.
• Has he said anything remotely close to verifying any of these 3 theories?
• No, he hasn’t.
• I would go into more details about this, but folks, there simply isn’t any more details.
• This is actually what they are bringing to court against Trump.

• Mel Manuel said Queer Northshore, which has 1,900 members, wants to parade as a way of demonstrating that the LGBTQ+ community exists everywhere and should not have to hide. Manuel said organizers had met all of the city’s requirements for a permit.
• Manuel, who is transgender, said members of the LGBTQ+ community struggle each day with how much of themselves to reveal to the outside world, having to “self police” to fit in and asking questions like, “Should I look less gay for my kid’s band recital?”
