Special Guest – Brother Andre Marie Host of ReConquest aired only on the Crusade Channel. Follow him on social media GAB and Twitter – @Brother_Andre Saint Laurence – First, he is named in the Roman Canon, which always indicates a significant cultus had formed around him. In the old (pre-1955) days, in fact, he was honored with both a Double of II Class feast as well as an Octave, indicating his importance. He was a deacon in Rome under Pope Sixtus II. The pope was martyred a few days before Lawrence, but although a pope clearly outranks a deacon, it was Lawrence, not Sixtus, who was honored with the greater feast and martyrology. At his death, Lawrence prayed for the conversion of Rome, and when this happened a few decades later, it was credited to his prayers, making today Rome’s chief feast after June 29 (Peter & Paul). The old collect for today’s feast used to be included in the standard prayers of thanksgiving that priests would say after Mass. So Lawrence’s intercession was literally asked thousands of times a day, every day, for centuries. Finally, the stories of his presenting the poor as the “treasures of the Church” and being burned are among the most famous in Church history. August 6th has become the Feast of the Transfiguration.
