Michael Thomas Cibenko
After graduating from the University of Montana in 1996, Michael spent four years living in Kumamoto Prefecture as a participant in the JET Program. During that time, he was inspired by the small but devout Catholic community there. His novel, Masaru, is based upon the events of the Shimabara Rebellion, an uprising of persecuted Christians in the 17th century. After returning to the U.S., Michael spent fourteen years as a teacher at Pope John XXIII High School (Japanese, German, and Theology), and in 2009 was presented the Excellence in Teaching Japanese award by Seton Hall University.
Michael has also written an article on truth in fiction, here.
Masaru can be purchased here.
