• Expansion on abortion in NYC killing babies even if they survive and abortion.
• This bill will eliminate the last remaining restrictions on abortion. 
• The 48 hour law etc it will make late term abortions easier in the state of Massachusetts.

• Doe vs Bolton = was a decision of the United States Supreme Court overturning the abortion law of Georgia. The Supreme Court’s decision was released on January 22, 1973, the same day as the decision in the better-known case of Roe v. Wade.

To the Editor:

Lisa Kashinsky’s article on Cardinal O’Malley’s criticism of the ROE Act suggested that, under current law, a woman could only obtain a late term abortion in Massachusetts if her life were endangered (O’Malley slams abortion bill, 4/7/2019).

That is not so. The General Laws of the Commonwealth permit abortions in the Bay State after 24 weeks if the  pregnancy would impose a “substantial risk of grave impairment of [a woman’s] physical or mental health.” Mental health is interpreted broadly.

The ROE Act would lower the standard by allowing abortions after 24 weeks to protect a woman’s “physical or mental health,” and would empower the abortionist, when citing mental health concerns, to consider the woman’s age, family circumstances, and various emotional and psychological factors.

If enacted, the ROE Act will not only eliminate all remaining restrictions on surgical abortions, but will maximize the ease and convenience of late term abortions in Massachusetts, and deny children who survive  abortions the protection of law.
