Winchester, VA – In this Celestial Musings, it’s that time of year again —Oktoberfest! In Munich, Germany the 184th Oktoberfest was kicked off by mayor Dieter Reiter, who cracked the first keg of beer with a cry of “It’s tapped!” and poured a round. The festival is celebrated complete with a horse and carriage parade, carnival rides, oompah bands and libation filled revelry. Millions are expected to show up in the Bavarian capital until the end of the festival on October 3. You know the first beer I ever liked was Oktoberfest by Sam Adams. I didn’t even like beer until my mid-thirties, and when Mitter Youngblood would bring me home Oktoberfest beer in September, I would say “Uh uh uh! It’s not October!” And I would wait. But I had no idea that the festival actually started at the end of September, until now. If you wish to know why Oktoberfest starts in September, then I’ll see you at the 8am news broadcast. At least now I won’t be such a stickler about it.
