Winchester, VA –Ā Catholic World Report is reporting that Pope Francis met yesterday with the Nigerian priests from the Diocese of Ahiara, who for the last five years have refused to accept the bishop who was appointed to lead them, Bishop Peter Okpaleke. The Ahiara diocese is mainly comprised of people from the Mbaise tribe, which experiences no shortage of priestly vocations. The Mbaise had desired one of their own to lead them, someone who understood their ways, but Father Okpalete was from a neighboring diocese. When the day for his installation arrived, he was physically blocked from entering his cathedral, so he was consecrated and installed outside his diocese. Pope Francis warned the priests about this mortal sin, and gave them 30 days to write a letter to him pledging obedience to their bishop and asking forgiveness for their disobedience or face ipso facto suspension and loss of their current office.
