A MIRACLE BABY WAS BORN IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

Winchester, VA – Ectopia cordis is a condition in which a baby’s heart grows outside the body while in utero. Babies with this condition have a less than 10% chance of survival. The Guardian reports that one baby, Vanellope Hope Wilkins is defying those odds, and is the first baby in the U.K. to do so. Born by cesarean section on November 22, at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, Vanellope overcame her first hurdle when she was born crying, for the ability to breathe was crucial with her condition. Her first of three surgeries was performed within an hour of her birth. Now three weeks old, she has had all three operations to move her heart back into her chest. For a baby whose parents were told that termination was the only option, she is doing remarkably well. What a tremendous blessing!
