Winchester, VA – In Church news, Crux is reporting that Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, retired archbishop of Bologna and founder of the Pope John Paul II Pontifical Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family passed away yesterday suddenly at the age of 79. Cardinal Caffarra is the second Cardinal of the four so-called “Dubia Cardinals” who have pressed Pope Francis for clarification about his apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia regarding the question of communion for the divorced and remarried . The other deceased “Dubia Cardinal,” Cardinal Joachim Meisner passed away in July. Cardinal Caffarra from his seminary days focused on issues of marriage, family life, and procreation, and was an outspoken defender of life and the Catholic understanding of human sexuality. Rest in peace.
