Winchester, VA – In this Celestial Musings, cases of colon cancer in young caucasians, specifically those between 20 and 29, are increasing. International Business Times reported on the new study released by the American Cancer Society on Tuesday, which said cases have increased by 1.6% annually in adults younger than 50, and have since the first spike was seen in 2004. Men are 30% more likely to develop the disease, and the increase in mortality rates suggests that the spike is not simply due to increased detection. Colonoscopies are helpful, but they aren’t recommended regularly for young adults, so what can young people do to stay ahead of this game? Well, they can’t sue colon cancer for discrimination. But they can keep alcohol and tobacco consumption to a minimum, stay active, and eat fruit.
