Winchester, VA –  In this Celestial Musings, the term “dry drowning” has been in the news the last few days, and it being swimming season, a refresher on this condition is in order so that you might be prepeared. What are the signs of dry drowning? Water safety expert Alison Osinski told CNN that the signs are: a persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, lethargy, fever, and an unusual mood change. CNN reported on little 4 year old Frankie Delgado, who inhaled water when a wave knocked him under the surface. His body had a delayed reaction to the inhaled water, and after exhibiting the symptoms above, he succumbed to dry drowning a week later. If you know a child who exhibits these symptoms in the days following a swim, take no chances: see a doctor.
