Winchester, VA– UPI is reporting that Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin has suggested that medical cannabis could be a helpful and useful treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by our veterans, and could help lower the suicide rates among them. Shulkin, a physician, said that federal law does not prevent them from looking into medical marijuana, and that everything that could be helpful for the veterans should be debated by congress and by medical experts. He said, “There may be some evidence that this is beginning to be helpful and we’re interested in looking at that and learning from that. Right now, federal law does not prevent us at VA to look at that as an option for veterans … I believe that everything that could help veterans should be debated by Congress and by medical experts and we will implement that law.” Secretary Shulkin was briefing reporters on the status of the Veterans Administration yesterday at the White House.
