Winchester, VA – Campus Reform reported yesterday that Old Dominion University in Roanoke, Virginia is on the warpath to combat “homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism.” The third term, heterosexism, refers to supposed prejudice against homosexuals based on the idea that heterosexuality is the preferred form of sexual identity. The University’s “Safe Space Committee”–yes, really—- is sponsoring “ally certification” trainings such as, “Safe Space Ally Certification, Student Ally Certification and LGBTQ 101. The goal is to create a campus where all sorts of gender identity exploration is welcomed, understood, and encouraged. They even go so far as to tout their “Spectrum Living-Learning Community” for LGBTQ students which is “ideal for students wanting to embrace diversity in a safe and affirming environment.”
