Winchester, VA – NBC reports that a massive search is underway for ten American sailors who went missing when the USS John S. McCain collided with an oil tanker near Singapore. The Alnic MC is a 30,000 ton chemical and oil tanker which sails under the Libyan flag. The hull of the USS John S. McCain is significantly damaged and in addition to the ten missing, five sailors were injured, but not seriously. The collision occurred at 5:24 a.m. Singapore time and is being treated as an accident. Singapore, in leading the search and rescue operation, has offered four ships from its navy and coast guard, and three tugboars from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. This is the fourth naval collision within the last year for the United States.
