The Maternal Left Hip Phenomenon Explained!

Winchester, VA – In this Celestial Musings, I think we are wonderfully designed! Did you know that when women hold their babies, they tend to hold them on the left hip? I always did this and thought it was because I was left-handed. This isn’t restricted to humans either, for many mammals do this too. So why is this? Nature Ecology and Evolution published research which explains that placement of the baby on the left side of the body activates the right side of the brain, which is responsible for language and understanding emotional cues. When a mother holds her baby on her left side, she is instinctively putting the baby where she will be most in tune with her baby’s communication and can meet his needs best. Read more at Kidspot.
