Winchester, VA – UPI is reporting that the strongest typhoon to strike the Guangdong province in five years hit yesterday, taking the lives of three and sending 20 people to the hospital. Typhoon Hato hit with wind speeds of up to 118 mph and wind gusts up to 138 mph. One man was killed when he was hit by a falling wall, and another fell from his 11th floor apartment. Two people are missing. Hong Kong canceled over 400 flights yesterday and only one plane landed today. Although Hong Kong did not take a direct hit from Hato, the city was within the storm’s warning range. Thousands of people from the Guangdong province evacuated in anticipation of the storm.
