Winchester, VA – Rewire is reporting that student Nikki Brar is suing his former school, “Heritage Oak Private Education” for discrimination after they refused to use the name and pronoun that corresponded with his chosen gender, and forced him to wear a boy’s uniform, and utilize the little boy’s room. Yes, the little boy’s room. Because Nikki Brar is 7 years old. Brar allegedly became depressed over this and started talking about harming himself, claiming that the school was “blocking” his “inner light.” Brar’s parents began homeschooling him after he tore up a picture of himself and expressed self-hatred. His mother says of the lawsuit, “It honors our child’s commitment to being who she is despite adversity,” and proclaims it their family’s contribution towards fighting this hardship and trauma for other transgender and gender expansive children. The family is seeking damages for emotional distress and an injunction requiring the school to develop a written non-discrimination policy for transgender students. This is the first court case using California state anti-discrimination laws. The first of many I’m sure.
