Winchester, VA – The Atlantic is reporting that Hillary Clinton is turning to religion to help reshape her public image. Bill Shillady, Clinton’s long-time pastor, says that  Clinton expressed a desire to become an ordained Methodist minister in 1994, but asked him to keep it confidential as, “It will make me seem much too pious.” Shillady is about to release a book of the daily devotionals he sent Mrs. Clinton during the 2016 campaign, entitled Strong for a Moment Like This, a reference to the Book of Esther, presumably likening Mrs. Clinton, a Methodist, to the Biblical heroine. He expressed disbelief at Americans’ unwillingness to accept her as a Christian, and says he thinks Clinton may show up as a lay guest preacher at some point. The article suggests in conclusion that the most authentic version of Hillary Clinton is “a woman whose fondest ambition is teaching scripture in church.” Um. Okay.
