Winchester, VA – The BBC reports that heavy rains were the cause of a landslide in the Sichuan province of China on Saturday. The rains loosened the top of the mountain which resulted in a cascade of rocks and boulders which demolished around 40 houses. A lack of vegetation on the mountain increased the severity of the landslide. Over 3000 workers have been involved in the rescue and recovery efforts. Some 118 people were still unaccounted for as of yesterday, and the workers have already located fifteen bodies. According to local geological experts, the likelihood of finding any more survivors is “really slim.”
