Amidst the panic and overall reduction of freedom that has come with COVID-19 “pandemic”, comes this report from Reuters about a far greater threat than the sniffles.  Titled “Factbox: Coronavirus spread closes North American meat plants” details the  that at least 11 different meat plants that have been shut down either temporarily or indefinitely. This will have far reaching consequences on EVERYONE in the U.S. & Canada. 

JUST IN TIME INVENTORY SYSTEM

The Food Supply Chain Practice the “Just In Time” inventory supply chain system, which:

The just-in-time (JIT) inventory system is a management strategy that aligns raw-material orders from suppliers directly with production schedules. Companies employ this inventory strategy to increase efficiency and decrease waste by receiving goods only as they need them for the production process, which reduces inventory costs. This method requires producers to forecast demand accurately.

The JIT inventory system contrasts with just-in-case strategies, wherein producers hold sufficient inventories to have enough product to absorb maximum market demand.

People do not seem to realize the long term implications of these plants shutting down. If these plants are not reopened entire farms of animals that cannot be sold off to the companies to be processed. Just because you re-open the plant doesn’t mean the food will start flowing immediately. It takes times for the supply chain to reactivate. So you will not see the impact of these shut downs for about a week, maybe two. After that it only gets worse. 

FOOD PRICES & SOCIAL UNREST WILL SOAR

The first thing that will happen is the prices for meat will increase and the supply dries up. This will push out the lower socioeconomic class that depend on meat (in the form of frozen dinners, fast food meals and other cheaper means). This will continue to create the gap between the haves and have nots until the supply runs out for everyone. After that, expect urban areas to become more violent as the food becomes more scarce. If you think it stops in the cities, these people, will venture out, which means these people may be coming to a town near you. 

What to do? 

You have two options:

A) Find an emergency food supply company (My Patriot Supply  or 4Patriots)  and get some emergency freeze dried food. It last 25 years and doesn’t take up that much room. You will feel better knowing you have it. 

B) Start a garden. You don’t need an acre to start a garden, and there is plenty of information online, such as this website to help you get started. As time passes it will be even more important to create your own supply chain to be able to take care of you the ones you care about.
