The Beauty Myth – Naomi Wolf

First published in the 1990s, Naomi Wolf’s book takes a long, hard look at America’s beauty industry, both the burgeoning cosmetic surgery market, through which women are led to believe that self-mutilation is the only way to achieve real beauty, and the multi-million dollar dieting industry. Wolf looks at the messages given to young women by the media about the way they should look, dress and behave, in many ways prophesying the battles faced by women in today’s selfie culture.
